4 TIPS FOR STYLING SHELVES

Styling shelves is one of my favorite part of home styling.  Whether you are starting from scratch or finding items around your home, it is such a creative process. Here are my top 4 tips for styling shelves!

1. Books books and more books

You can never have enough books when styling shelves. The best part is you probably have a ton of books in your home already. Why not incorporate them into your home decor? If you have larger, coffee table style books, stack them on top of one another in a group of 2 or 3 then top with a decorative vessel or shadowbox . Another great way to incorporate books into shelf styling is standing books up with bookends.

2. Layer

Don’t leave objects alone! Group items in groups of 2 or 3. Don’t be afraid to stack items on top of another to add dimension and shape to your decor. You can layer pictures behind one another and layer in items that are different sizes and textures.  This will bring your shelf styling to the next level

3. Over shop

When you’re shopping for shelves, you cannot overbuy. Grab three times the items you think you’ll need and then double it. You’ll never have enough options and once you get it all home you’ll have many options to play around with. That’s the beauty of having Homegoods and At Home. You can buy and return until the cows come home.

4. Greenery

This is the MOST important shelving tip.   If you don’t have a green thumb, like me 🙋🏼‍♀️, buy fake ones. Incorporating greenery adds warmth that you can’t get from anywhere else. If you take one tip away from this post it is greenery – nothing is more important than adding greens to your decor. You can have potted  plants, greenery coming out of shadow boxes, faux plants that trail off the shelf – more is more in this case.
